Left-Brain Solutions to Right-Brain Problems.

Story Problems is a free weekly newsletter that crunches the numbers on things that don’t need crunching, across sports, culture, and business.

About the Author

I'm Ben, founder of Huckleberry Creative, a commercial production company in Nashville, TN. My company specializes in documentary storytelling for pioneering brands, which professionally speaking, means I spend most of my days translating messy real-world situations into clean narratives people can understand in under 90 seconds.

Personally speaking, this also means that even when I go home at night to check out by watching sports or TV, I can’t stop seeing data hiding in narratives, and narratives hiding in data.

Story Problems is where I take a moment from sports, culture, or business —something everyone already has an opinion about — and build data-driven models to see what’s really happening underneath the narrative.

Sometimes these models confirm the story.
And sometimes they completely break them.

Either way, the goal is the same: settle bar arguments with spreadsheets. These are my left-brain solutions (nobody asked for) on right-brain problems across culture, sports, and business. Follow along with me, and crunch some numbers on things that don’t need crunching.

What You’ll Get

  • One Main Essay Per Week: A clear claim, a simple model, and a re-told story that better matches reality.

  • Occasional “Mini-Problems”: Shorter posts when the internet hands us something worth overthinking.
