About the Author
I'm Ben, founder of Huckleberry Creative, a commercial production company in Nashville, TN. My company specializes in documentary storytelling for pioneering brands, which professionally speaking, means I spend most of my days translating messy real-world situations into clean narratives people can understand in under 90 seconds.
Personally speaking, this also means that even when I go home at night to check out by watching sports or TV, I can’t stop seeing data hiding in narratives, and narratives hiding in data.
Story Problems is where I take a moment from sports, culture, or business — something everyone already has an opinion about — and go find out what’s actually happening underneath the narrative.
Usually that means building a model. Sometimes it means reading the rule book, the contract, or the incentives everyone’s pretending not to see.
Occasionally the story holds up.
More often, it completely breaks.
Either way, the goal is the same: settle bar arguments with spreadsheets.
